Taylor Swift’s Hits Willow And Cardigan Were Originally For The National ‘The National’ almost got Taylor Swift’s hits ‘Willow’ and ‘Cardigan.’ The songs were featured on Swift’s sister albums, ‘Evermore’ and ‘Folklore,’ and without them, the albums would’ve sounded different. The National’s Aaron Dessner, 46, and Matt Berninger, 52, collaborated with a pop megastar on the two records, according to Berninger’s interview with The Telegraph. “I’d taken a swing at [‘Cardigan’] and ‘Willow’ and a couple of others, and I wasn’t having a lot of luck, so Aaron sent them to Taylor,” said Berninger. “I always have a lot of music to work on, and I am looking for something to connect emotionally. The reverse has happened, too, where Aaron wrote something for Taylor, and I dove right in. It works both ways.” Do you think “Evermore” and “Folklore” would’ve been different if “Willow” and “Cardigan” hadn’t been on the albums?
