Work risk!

I love my job as a radio DJ, but one “downfall” is the job can be a catalyst for some less than healthy habits.

The actual job of pressing buttons and talking into a microphone doesn’t exactly burn calories and it’s probably five hours of being sedentary. I also work rather odd and irregular hours as well as very long days. The last thing I want to do after a 12 hour day and getting home at 8:30 in the evening is to start cooking a homemade meal. The result is often take out or other options that can be horrible for the body.

One of my favorite genres of food is Chinese take out. There isn’t a Chinese menu that I haven’t fallen head-over-heels in love with. My favorite dish of all time, and probably my choice of a last meal if I were ever on death row, is General Tso’s Chicken. It’s deep fried chicken chunks in a sweet, tangy and spicy sauce. I don’t know who General Tso was, but he made some damn good chicken!

 

Last year on NBC’s Today show. their nutrition expert Joy Bauer had a segment in which she invited viewers to submit their favorite non-healthy foods and she would make a “better for you” version.

I challenged her to my General Tso’s addiction and she accepted. I haven’t tried to make it myself yet but watch the clip below of my Today Show “debut” with hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.
